The Maratona dles Dolomites is taking place on Sunday 6.45am starting at La Villa/Stern in Alta Badia and finishing at Corvara. 8,500 cyclists from all over the world (from 35 countries) will compete in the race. Each year the number of entrants is restricted. The settings for this sporting event are unique: the Dolomite pass roads which will be closed to traffic. Entrants can choose from three Marathon distances: the long route, 138 km with a total difference in altitude of 4,190 metres (13,747 ft) to surmount; the medium route, 106 km and 3,090 metres (10,138 ft) difference in altitude; and the Sella Ronda route measuring 55 km with a total difference in altitude of 1,780 metres (5,840 ft).
